Well, you already know my name. I am Freddy and I’m the new mascot of family austria. They thought I would be an ideal advertising spokesperson because I look so healthy and juicy. And I’m a lot of fun! Well, it’s always been fun with me. In addition, the family austria people really liked my sneakers. They were totally excited because I absolutely love to run and frolic around outside. So we partnered up and I think we fit well together. Come and visit us sometime!

Carrot juice instead of cola, pear instead of burger, fitness instead of TV: The healthy way of life canon has burned itself into our awareness like spilt milk on a hot plate: inextinguishable. And nevertheless, there’s fire on the roof, as the statistics strikingly testify: Ten to 15 percent of all young people are overweight, in some areas up to 20 per cent. Obesity (fat dependency) and diabetes type 2 are no longer only reserved for seniors. Keeping composure obviously also counts as a feat: With 12 to 14 year olds, each third back is bent; 20 per cent of the children with posture damage are younger than six years old. A lot to do for Freddy Fit, the apple with the noticeable good mood and the red sneakers! His name is programme: Freddy Fit is the new sporty mascot of family austria Hotels and Apartments – the offer group of Austria Advertising that has „vacations with“ and not „vacations from the children“ written on its flag.
A happily jumbled mission. The job of the impudent rascal: to tell the vacationing off-spring a great deal about healthy nutrition and correct exercise. Freddy fit does this without finger pointing education and hypocritical moral instructions. Ingredients of the happily jumbled mission for more health awareness are fun, a scientifically devised exercise programme and all kinds of cooking experiments, which are implemented in the over 40 establishments under the leadership of specifically trained child care specialists. Long-term effects desired, even if not guaranteed. „It’s logical that one cannot completely change the lifestyle of a family in one week” says Nadia M. Olsacher, project manager of family austria. „However, our Freddy fit programme will probably be able to set an important impulse and produce sufficient motivation to integrate the attained realisations into everyday life.
A vacation, that’s moving. The Freddy Fit book with its recipes and tips as well as the literally moving Wirbelix-CD where children’s rhymes are combined with cheerful gymnastics exercises, act as memory anchors. By the way, the scientific foundation is provided by experts in their fields: The Wirbelix concept is already a best seller in numerous kindergartens. It was developed by sports scientist Prof. Dr. Otto Fleiß and nutrition coach Reinhard-Karl Üblacker – “snack man” and the Austrian Jamie Oliver, who is responsible for the know how dealing with nutrition.
That the health ambitions of „family austria” are consistently thought through, shows up not least in the food offered in the establishments themselves: Healthy children’s meals are characterised with the Freddy Fit logo – so the little ones can recognise quickly, where good cuisine is at home. Naturally they can also cook themselves: Whole meal pizza, a vegetable soup, a sandwich for the parents – they should, after all, also experience how delicious health can taste.
