Experiences with the family
An unforgettable family hiking trail!
Some of the older residents of Kaning can still hear the rattling of the mills and the whirring of the water. They can feel, when they drive past the last mill, the flour dust on their fingers and the smell of the warm flour. The ‘floder’ does not look to be still to them. This is the ancient ancestor of the turbine with its strong blades attached strongly to the rotor – or millstone.
Along the mill there used to flow oats, rye, wheat and barley – harvests produced with great toil, work, perseverance and care. That’s why everyone in Kaning had their own mill. One still stands today. Where the others used to be found along the stream, there is today hardly a millstone left.
An exhibition on the subject of mining and a slide show of the National Park with sound is today located in the Türkhausmuseum.
